Devlog One: The Beginning
‘Flamin’ Joe: Trial By Fire’ Devlog One
Hi there!
The first build of Flamin’ Joe: Trial by Fire is uploaded! This game is being created as part of a university module, and is my first time using Unity!
I’ve posted this to share with some friends prior to an IRL group session with university colleagues and game developers next week.
The good
I think the game loop is fun! I’ve always been a big fan of fixed camera angles in games, but a lot of people dislike them. From the feedback I received it turned out this wasn’t an issue.
Up to this point the focus has been on making the game play well, which means more focus can now be directed to making it look and ‘feel’ better.
The bad
The fire effects might ‘look cool’ to me, but people had a hard time seeing them. Worse still, they were described as ‘blurry areas’ and not fire! Lots of work to do here then.
In Summary
Some people got lost, there’s no sound, and various bugs to take care of; however, I think I’m off to a good start as the gameloop is fun and should be able to address these issues for the IRL session.
SPOILER: I can and have! I’ll be uploading V0.2 directly after writing this :D
